Inbox privacy policy
Inbox is a desktop app that reads and changes your Gmail and Google Calendar data only on your own Mac, at your request. Effective 2026-10-08.
Data the app accesses
- Gmail messages, labels and filters, through the scopes
gmail.modify and gmail.settings.basic.
- Google Calendar events, through the scope
calendar.events.
- Your email address, to label the account in the app.
Where the data goes
- The app stores mail and events in a database on your Mac. The developer runs no server and receives none of your data.
- Sign-in tokens are encrypted with the macOS Keychain on your Mac.
- Unread mail is classified by a model that runs on your Mac. Email text is not sent anywhere for classification.
- When you type a request into the built-in assistant, the request and the emails the assistant reads to answer it are sent to Anthropic's API using your own API key. Anthropic processes them under its commercial terms. Nothing is sent to the assistant unless you ask it something.
What the app does not do
- It does not sell, share or transfer Google user data to anyone.
- It does not use Google user data for advertising.
- It does not use Google user data to train AI or machine-learning models.
Inbox's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Deleting your data
Disconnect the app at myaccount.google.com/permissions, then delete ~/Library/Application Support/inbox on your Mac. That removes every copy the app made.
